  • You know your child best and should trust your instincts if something doesn’t feel right.

Psychologists consider several factors when assessing whether a behaviour is concerning:

    • Is the behaviour extreme or does it persist over time?

    • Is the behaviour age-appropriate or typical?

    • Does it make sense for the situation?

    • Is the behaviour upsetting or affecting the family?

    • Does it impact the child’s friendships, school success, or other activities?

While occasional difficulties are normal, consistent problems may need further discussion. If you have questions about your child’s mental health, please contact us to discuss your concerns.

  • A psychologist is trained to help children with significant emotional or behavioural difficulties, complex mental health issues, or young people who require an individualized treatment plan.

Registered psychologists have advanced training and education, holding a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology. Their extensive education includes in-depth coursework and training in psychological assessment, diagnosis, treatment and research, coupled with rigorous clinical residencies and post-doctoral fellowships and supervision, where they gain hands-on experience at hospitals and other clinical settings.

    • The appointment fee will be charged for late cancellations or missed appointments.

  • The length of treatment varies based on the complexity and severity of a person’s needs, their motivation for change, and the protocols for evidence-based treatments. Following the initial consultation, an individualized treatment plan will be discussed with you.

For example, evidence-based treatment for childhood anxiety and depression typically involves weekly Cognitive Behavioural Therapy over 12 to 20 sessions, with sessions becoming staggered towards the end of treatment to promote independence.

Treatment for complex psychological trauma, co-occurring mental health conditions, and severe emotional dysregulation is lengthier (e.g., DBT or TF-CBT) and typically involves collaboration with pediatricians, psychiatrists, school staff, and other medical/mental health services.

Treatment progress is reviewed regularly to ensure therapy remains effective and responsive to the child's needs.
